A 365 Day Project

Day 141/365: Deserted

I have driven past the ruins of this place at East Maitland so many times and thought it would be great to shoot. I have no idea what it used to be, so leave a comment if you do. Once again, I had to shoot from behind a six foot wire fence, but luckily there is a hill leading up to the railway bridge where I could shoot from. There are probably some great shots to be had inside, but alas, there is no way in.

This is a photo of the Penders & Fosters saw mill & timber yard East Maitland NSW.I don’t know when it opened but it was an old business in the 60’s. They milled logs that were brought down from the Upper Allyn & Williams Valley. A lot of houses in Maitland would be constucted from timber milled there. In the 80’s it was bought out by BBC hardware who were taken over by Bunnings. As hardwood logs became harder to source they switched to making soft wood trusses. I think it closed 6 or 7 years ago.
